Emily Durkin of Chelmsford (pictured) and Rachel Vincent of Townsend have been named November’s Students of the Month at Nashoba Tech, based on the school’s “Portrait of a Graduate” attributes: resourceful, responsible, resilient, respectful and ready.
Emily Durkin, daughter of Hamet and Megan Vyas, is a senior in the Health Assisting program and is a freshman mentor. She plans to continue in the health field after graduation.
She works at Chelmsford Crossing, an assisted-living facility in her hometown, through the Cooperative Education program. One recent day, she alertly noticed a resident in a wheelchair was choking and administered the Heimlich maneuver, saving the man’s life.
Emily was nominated by Health Assisting instructors Theresa Ristaino and Milaina Mainieri, partly for her “quick action and using her skills and training to save a life.”
Rachel Vincent, daughter of Eugene and Darlene Champagne, is a junior in the Health Assisting program. She is a high-honors student and a student representative to the School Committee, and she volunteers for school events, including Parents Night and Open House. She also plays volleyball for the Vikings.
She hopes to continue in the health profession and plans to study Nursing in college.
Rachel was nominated by Health Assisting instructors Theresa Ristaino and Milaina Mainier, who wrote: “Rachel knows how to get her work done while balancing sports and an after-school job, and is always willing to step up and help her classmates. She’s an all-around great person, and we are lucky to have her in our technical area and our school.”
