Jenna Wilder graduated from Landmark School in Beverly last year with not much of a plan about what she wanted to do with her life.
Her mother saw that Nashoba Tech offers post-secondary education free for students in the school’s district and said to Jenna, “Why not try it?”
So the Groton resident, daughter of Dave and Nancy Wilder, embarked on an education in Culinary Arts, which she will finish this spring with her certificate and an idea for what she might want to do in the future.
Jenna is Nashoba Tech’s nominee for the Massachusetts Vocational Association’s Post-Secondary Student Award, given to a student who shows personal commitment to and success in vocational education; good character and leadership; and involvement in community activities.
While she says she really likes the baking and cooking aspects over front-of-house activities, she’s not sure what she wants to do for her career.
Whatever she chooses, the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management staff know she’ll excel.
“Jenna is an amazing student with a very upbeat, positive personality,” Chef-Instructor Jeremy Bussiere said. “She is always helping other students and has natural leadership qualities. We have been lucky to have her in the Culinary program this year. As the school year went on, Jenna quickly started to feel more like a teaching assistant than a post-grad student.”
