Hello My Name Is...

Mr. Husby
Geography is the canvas upon which history is painted.

Happy Faces

I am a second-year teacher for Nashoba Valley Tech, but have been teaching for the past sixteen years.  The past thirteen years have been in Massachusetts, and in California and Oregon before that.

My undergraduate degrees are in History and Geography, with a Masters in Secondary Education –  Social Sciences – from a two-year program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Massachusetts teaching licenses include:  History, English Language Arts, Special Education and English as a Second Language.  In addition to these current Massachusetts teaching licenses, in 2001 the state of California granted me a certification to teach high school “Geosciences” (Earth Science).  My Earth science and geography orientation is integrated to enhance the interdisciplinary history-based coursework that I teach.

I have a dynamic and engaging instructional conversation teaching style built around a discerning use of visuals and rooted in a thematic approach.  A key learning objective is the student’s ongoing growth in transferable intellectual tools such as thesis/claim-statement driven writing and differentiated critical-thinking skills.  History-based content themes include Geography; Economics; Migration/Immigration; Industrialization/Industrial Revolution; Imperialism; Civil Rights / Slavery; and Point-of-View.  These themes can apply to our analysis of the present as much as they do in our study of the past.
