Scholarship and Tool-Ship Award Overview Each year, Nashoba Valley Technical High School is provided with scholarship funds from a variety of organizations throughout Central Massachusetts. Some of these organizations have their own internal process for selecting the recipient, while others allow our scholarship committee to choose the recipient.
In order to be eligible to receive a scholarship or tool-ship award, students must complete and submit the Nashoba Valley Technical High School Scholarship and Tool-Ship Application by the deadline indicated. For students to receive a scholarship by our committee, they need to have been accepted into a 2 or 4 year post secondary institution. For students to receive a tool-ship award by our committee, they need to be entering the workforce or apprenticeship program in their respective technical trade. This information is ascertained prior to the initial annual Scholarship Committee meeting in the spring.
As part of the scholarship and tool-ship award process, students must obtain recommendations from their academic and technical instructors using the Nashoba Valley Technical High School Scholarship/Tool-Ship Award Recommendation Form (see attached). Final eligibility for scholarships and tool-ship awards is determined by using a rubric system comprised of academic achievement, attendance, discipline, and teacher recommendations. Students are rand ordered based upon overall points earned (see attached rubric system).
The rubric number that we will require students to meet, in order to be eligible, will vary year to year depending on the number of scholarships and tool-ship awards available. In an effort to distribute funds to the greatest number of students possible, we divide scholarships into 2 awards. As a result, a $1,000 scholarship would result in 2 $500 scholarships awarded by our committee. Therefore, if we have 20 scholarships to distribute to 40 students in a given year, our rubric cut-off will be the 41st lowest score among the seniors.
