Help Your Child Succeed

Early Childhood Education

Tips for Parents

Provide a list of tips for parents to help their children to do well in school.

In the Early Childhood Education Program, students learn growth & development of young children, responsibilities of the childcare teacher, and the importance of a professional attitude.  Students will learn how to incorporate materials and activities that are developmentally and interest appropriate.

Students will understand the responsibilities of child care, the importance of communication with others, and the need to project a professional appearance. They will gain an understanding of prenatal care, birth, and the developmental milestones in the early years of life.

Areas that are addressed include: physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, an overview of major theorists and theories used in early childhood education, writing and implementing a basic lesson plan, emergent curriculum, observation as an assessment tool, the different types of early childhood programs, and an understanding of professional organizations such as the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Theory and practical experience combine to make up the Early Childhood Education experience at NVTHS. The students are able to gain practical experience in an on-campus child care center, Bright Horizons.
