Entrants to the Nashoba Valley Technical High School Art Show and Competition must be public school students from the Ayer-Shirley, Chelmsford, Groton-Dunstable, Littleton, Nashoba Valley Technical, North Middlesex, or Westford school districts in the sixth through the twelfth grades. The entrant's school of attendance must be properly listed on the entry form for submitted work to be displayed and considered for award. Home schooled students who reside in any town in the Nashoba Valley Technical High School District may be entered and considered, if the entry is accompanied by a letter of recommendation from any active Fine Arts teacher from any of the school districts listed above, along with some form of proof of residency.
Entries will be judged in three age-based categories: sixth and seventh grade entries, eighth and ninth grade entries, and tenth through twelfth grade entries. First through third places, plus two honorable mentions, will be awarded in each age category. Artwork that has previously been entered in the NVTHS Art Show will not be accepted for display or consideration for awards, and such entries will be returned to the artist along with a refund of any entry fee. All Awards and Honorable Mentions shall be at the sole discretion of the show's Judging Panel, and not subject to discovery, dispute, or review.
All entries, forms, and fees must be delivered to Nashoba Valley Technical High School by March 29, 2019 for work to be displayed and considered for awards. Physical entries may be dropped of at or mailed to Nashoba Valley Technical High School (NVTHS, â„… Art Show, 100 Littleton Road, Westford, MA 01886) by the submission date. Entries may also be picked up at eligible schools during the week of March 25 - 29, if pick ups are coordinated by one of that school’s Fine Arts teachers. Digital entries may be submitted on a USB drive to NVTHS, or emailed to nmeharg@nashobatech.net by the entry date (except still digital images, see below). Emailed submissions must be under 20MB in size, and will not be formally entered until an entry form and fee have been received. Each piece entered must be accompanied by an Entry Form and a $4.00 Entry Fee (or the maximum of three entries for $10.00), to be mailed or dropped off to Nashoba Valley Technical High School by the entry date. Checks must be made out to Nashoba Valley Technical High School, with Art Show written in the Memo area.
Entries must be submitted in ready-to-hang condition, with the artists name, grade, and school clearly written on the back. Digital media should be in a sealed envelope that is clearly labeled with the same information. Ready-to-display condition is defined by the following guidelines:
> Physical entries on paper or similar media must be mounted on board and matted. Pieces will generally be displayed on easels, however tape or other non-visible hanging implements may be used to display the piece.
> Images created digitally must be printed out on appropriate paper and conform to the above rules for flat entries.
> Entries on canvas or any other form of fabric must be on a stretcher or frame and wired for hanging.
> Free-standing sculptures must be two feet or under in height, and not need any support from wires or braces. All pieces must be suitable to be placed on a pedestal. No pieces will be displayed on the floor.
> No pieces that require being hung from the ceiling will be accepted. Any mobiles or hanging artwork must come with their own stand, frame, or support and be suitable for display on a pedestal.
> Bas-relief or other wall mounted sculptures or three-dimensional media must be submitted with proper support or bracing, and not require additional structural assistance.
> Video, animation, and other entries that require a screen to be viewed may require that the proper viewing equipment be provided by the entrant for display in the show. The entrant may be required to set up the display personally in order to be included. Entrants will be contacted if this is necessary. To the extent possible, the entrant will not be required to provide devices or assistance for the judging of the artwork.
Excepting artists who opt out, or artwork that is deemed ineligible for other reasons, all artwork will be installed at Gallery Z located at 167 Market Street in Lowell, Massachusetts for a show to last from May 2nd until May 12th. Entrants may opt out of having their work sent to Gallery Z for display by checking the appropriate box on their Entry Form. Artwork that is selected to be displayed at Gallery Z must be framed and wired for hanging, and otherwise conform to the guidelines outlined above. Gallery Z reserves the right to refuse any artwork that does not meet its requirements for installation. Artists will be able to designate on their show entry form if they wish to make their artwork available for sale while on display in the gallery, as well as suggest an acceptable sale price. The ownership of Gallery Z, at its discretion, may suggest an alternative sale price as more in line with the market—and reserves the right to not offer the artwork for sale if an agreement cannot be reached on a reasonable sale price. An all ages reception will be held at the gallery on the afternoon of May 4th, which will be open to the public.
By entering artwork, artists agree to permit their work to appear in the Nashoba Valley Technical High School Art Show Catalogue. The NVTHS Art Show will also coordinate the production and sale of show souvenirs utilizing the artwork entered in the show. These will available for sale to the public, and profits from the sale of show souvenirs will be split between the NVTHS Art Show and the school attended by the artist whose work was used in the production of the souvenir. Artists must opt in to permitting their work to be used in souvenir production, and the decision to participate or not will have no bearing on consideration for awards.
All submitted artwork will be handled with all due care, however Nashoba Valley Technical High School, and its students, employees, and volunteers, may not be held responsible for any damage to any submitted artwork. All submissions, and any materials submitted for their display, may be reclaimed starting Wednesday, May 15 at Nashoba Valley Technical High School, following the Gallery Z reception and installation. Artwork may also be returned to eligible schools, under the coordination of a Fine Arts teacher at that school.
Any questions or concerns about these rules or any other matter pertaining to the Art Show and Competition should be referred to Nathan Meharg at nmeharg@nashobatech.net
