WESTFORD — Two graduates in the Class of 2016, both from Townsend, have been named May’s Students of the Month at Nashoba Tech.

Casey Jones, daughter of Brad and Jennifer Jones, is a graduate of
the Design & Visual Communications program. She is an honor-roll student and a Kick-Off Mentor, selected by staff to help incoming students adjust to Nashoba Tech. Casey was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and is a member of SkillsUSA, earning a bronze medal in Photography in the District Competition.

On Senior Awards Night, Casey received the Technical Proficiency
Award for Design & Visual Communications, the Presidents Award for Academic Excellence and the Dorr Scholarship. She plans to attend Salem State University to study photography, social work and business, and hopes to become a design teacher.

This is Casey’s second time being named Student of the Month. She was
nominated this time by two staff members. Design & Visual Communications Instructor Derik Rochon said Casey took the initiative this year on the yearbook, coming in even on days when she was working at a local print shop through Nashoba Tech’s school-to-career Cooperative Education program.

Donna McMahon, co-adviser of the senior class, also nominated Casey,
and wrote that in addition to producing much of the yearbook, “Casey also took on the role of designing the class T-shirt, as well as the many posters the class needed to advertise all the events throughout the year.”

Jessica Watson, daughter of Brian and Kimberley Watson, is a graduate of the Banking/Marketing/Retail program. She was inducted into both the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She is an honor-roll student and a Kick-Off Mentor, selected by staff to help incoming students adjust to Nashoba Tech.

Jessica is the class vice president, a member of DECA and a
participant in the Massachusetts School Banking Association. She takes Advanced Placement English and competes for the girls lacrosse team. At Senior Awards Night, she received the Friends of Nashoba Scholarship and the Lowell Five Scholarship. She plans to attend Fitchburg State University to major in Nursing.

Jessica was nominated by two staff members. Banking/Marketing/Retail Instructor Sarah Richard wrote: “Jessica completes assignments and tasks with dedication and detail. She is self-motivated, conducts herself with a high level of professionalism, and consistently shows her creative side when making store displays. She is well-liked by students and faculty, and will undoubtedly be successful in her future endeavors.”

English Instructor Bruce Sullivan wrote: “Jess is a pleasure to have in class, is always prepared and positive, and brings a creative spirit to our AP class. Her senior-project paper on ‘Establishing a Successful Non-Profit Organization’ was both compelling and informative. She is also a leader in her technical program and on the athletic field.”
