MARGARET MESCALL, DEVIN HUSSEY NAMED NASHOBA TECH STUDENTS OF THE MONTHSOM 03 16
WESTFORD — Margaret Mescall and Devin Hussey, both of Chelmsford, have been selected as March’s Students of the Month at Nashoba Tech.

Margaret Mescall, daughter of Patrick and Patricia Mescall, is a
junior in the TV & Media Production/Theatre Arts program who has made her mark at Nashoba Tech through her incredible singing voice.

Maggie was the first student in the 47-year history of the school to qualify for the highly selective Massachusetts Music Educators Association’s Eastern District Senior Festival, held in January at Boston Latin. But she did that one better, being one of only about 250 kids statewide invited to perform with the All-State Choir at Symphony Hall in March, an experience she said was incredible.

“Just standing there and knowing so many incredible musicians had been there before me was really humbling,” she said.

As a freshman, Maggie was one of the first two Nashoba Tech students ever selected to perform in MMEA’s Eastern District Junior Festival, before she graduated this year to the Senior Festival. She is an honor-roll student, and a member of the Drama Club, Chorus and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She competes for the cross-country and spring track teams. She hopes to attend the University of Massachusetts Lowell to study Sound Recording Technology and enjoy a career in the music industry.

Maggie was nominated by Music Instructor Laura Lamore, who wrote: “Maggie performed at Symphony Hall with the best singers in the state. She has stayed humble and grateful throughout her musical success. She has continued to practice and improve. She is a great representation of what a student can accomplish with hard work and dedication.”

Devin Hussey, son of Dennis and Mary-Ann Hussey, is a senior who earned a gold medal in the SkillsUSA District Conference and will compete in the State Conference in Technical Computer Applications. He earned a silver medal as a junior at the Districts.

Devin is in the Design & Visual Communications program. He is a member of the Drama Club and has participated in the last four musical productions at Nashoba Tech. He plans to attend Middlesex Community College in the fall to study Computer Science, with a goal of being a software designer.

Devin was nominated by Design & Visual Communications Instructor and SkillsUSA co-adviser Derik Rochon, who wrote: “Devin has worked hard, putting his all into some very difficult projects. Devin is no stranger to the school staff, as he worked all summer to help NVTHS get ready for the Chromebook rollout, updating the teachers’ computers and the school’s computer labs. His senior project is building icons for smartphone applications, and he has already had interest from an application company that wants to use his icons.”
